On January 8, at the conference introducing the International Exhibition on Technology for Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable Production and Processing (HortEx Vietnam 2025), Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT), emphasized Vietnam’s significant progress in becoming a major exporter in Southeast Asia.

In 2024, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports hit a record $7.2 billion, with durian emerging as the star performer, contributing $3.2 billion, or 45% of total export revenue. The explosive growth in durian exports is largely attributed to expanded access to key markets, especially China, following the opening of official export routes in late 2022. This breakthrough helped establish Vietnam as a key competitor in the durian trade, surpassing other exporters in the region.

With this momentum, Vietnam is confidently aiming for $8 billion in exports by 2025 and $10 billion by 2030, making fruit and vegetable exports a pillar industry.
